Consumers’ behaviour have shifted as more interest groups in societies has demanded for more transparency in the products/services they use in their daily life. This greater demand for transparency led to the emergence of Sustainable sourcing which involves the integration of social, ethical and environmental performance factors into the process of selecting suppliers. It includes purchasing sustainably preferable products and services as well as green purchasing guidelines that might pertain to certain products or commodities.

What is Sustainable Responsible Sourcing?

Sustainable & responsible sourcing is a challenging process as it involved every aspect of business processes, primarily in procurement and supply chain. Everything from sourcing materials, talent attraction and consumer purchasing habits undergo huge and costly changes because of sustainable sourcing growth.

Sustainable sourcing is needed because supply chains continue to expand globally into developing countries for lower costs and larger production capacity. This expansion exposes companies to increased risks and heightens the expectations of their stakeholders. Company stakeholders expect corporations to take responsibility for their supplier’s environmental, social and ethical practices. Now companies are increasingly making sustainable sourcing an essential part of their procurement and supply chain management processes.

Due to climate change and supply chain disruption, companies are integrating sustainability requirements into supplier qualification and management processes and looking to embed sustainable procurement as part of their sustainability KPIs and targets. A range of new codes and standards have developed to support these aims.
