Professional Certificate in Cognitive Psychology

The module is a basic course in cognitive psychology (theory and method). Cognitive Psychology is used throughout the entire range of human knowledge, perception, activity, speech processing, problem solving and thinking about learning and memory. The course will give students knowledge of the most important concepts, themes, problems, and empirical research in modern cognitive theory as it concerns how we receive, interpret, edit, use and save information. The course will deal with the study of both general traits and individual differences. 

On successful completion of this module, students will be able to:

1. Gain basic knowledge of cognitive psychology.
2. Understand how human cognition works from attention, sensation, perception, action, language processes, problem solving and thinking to learning and memory.
3. Acquire the key methods used in modern cognitive psychology research.
4. Explain why the study of brain is important to the discipline of cognitive psychology
5. Improve in ability to ask and answer “bigger” question s (not asked or answered in the readings) 

Anil Singh Sona

Mr Anil is currently an associate lecturer and coach with more than 10 years of experience at various government and private institutions. He is a highly versatile educator and trainer in the areas of Counselling, Psychology and Sociology. Prior to lecturing full-time, Anil was a Community Outreach Manager with the National Addictions Management Service (NAMS), Institute of Mental Health (IMH), and an Executive Director of a community drug rehabilitation centre. Mr Anil holds a Master of Social Sciences from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and a Graduate Certificate in Social Sciences (Professional Counselling) from Swinburne University of Technology (SUT).
