Professional Certificate in Criminology and Behavioural Psychology

Why do people commit the crimes they do? Why are certain behaviours identified as criminal?

During this 2 day professional certification, you will investigate the causes of crime and will brainstorm the question ‘What should we do about crime’?

This two-day programme will allow you to understand the key areas of criminology and psychology. As the crime problems, today become an increasingly central focus, you will acquire the methodological skills and theoretical tools that criminology practitioners use, and study-specific ways of understanding people and their behaviour. Our trainer will run the course through a first theoretical session and a second practical session which will expose trainees to practical activities related to the subjects covered. A certificate will be released to learners who attended both days of the course.

This course is filled with field-tested methodologies and tactical directions designed to prevent, contain, manage and resolve emergencies and critical incidents efficiently and effectively.

Upon completion of the course, learners will be able to understand:

1. Impact of Social Psychology on criminal  – Understand and explain the factors that lead people to behave in a given way in the presence of others and the conditions under which certain behaviours and feelings occur.
2. Availability Heuristics & its effects – Examining mental shortcut that relies on immediate examples that come to mind and its effects.
3. Fundamentals to Personality – Introduction to basic theories of personality; learn personality system & sub-system, resisting personality and conformity.
4. Singapore’s Criminal Justice System – Introduced to criminology; Examine how Singapore governed in the context of law has shaped the criminal justice with reference to criminal statistics; Social contract
5. Positivist Criminology & Criticism –Focuses on studying the relationship between criminal behaviour and any external factors and criticism.

Our Trainer’s Profile: Anil Singh Sona

Anil is currently an associate lecturer and academic coach with more than 10 years of experience at various government and private institutions. He is a highly versatile educator and trainer in the areas of Psychology, Sociology, and Public Safety and Security. As a mental wellness coach, Anil is a passionate advocate of mental wellness in schools, workplaces, and personal life. He aspires to motivate organisations and individuals to develop a culture of mental wellness for the staff and clients. Prior to lecturing full-time, Anil was a Community Outreach Manager with the National Addictions Management Service (NAMS), Institute of Mental Health (IMH), and an Executive Director of a community drug rehabilitation centre. Anil holds a Master of Social Sciences from National University of Singapore (NUS) and a Graduate Certificate in Social Sciences (Professional Counselling) from Swinburne University of Technology (SUT).
