PhD, Northwestern University

Dr. David Peterson, a faculty member in Purdue’s Department of Sociology, holds a PhD from Northwestern University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at UCLA. His research explores the intersection of scientific practice, emerging technologies, and expert authority.

Dr. Peterson's work focuses on two key areas: the evolving structure of scientific organizations in response to challenges such as political pressures, global competition, advancements in communication and machine learning, and regulatory shifts; and the dynamics of scientific production in fields with persistent legitimacy challenges, like the social sciences. Through his research, Dr. Peterson seeks to illuminate how politics, expertise, and authority interact within scientific communities.

Dr. Daniel Schiff

Assistant Professor of Technology at Purdue University

Dr. Daniel Schiff is an Assistant Professor of Technology Policy at Purdue University’s Department of Political Science and Co-Director of the Governance and Responsible AI Lab(GRAIL).

His research explores the governance of AI, focusing on policy and industry standards, Ai ethics, and the societal impacts of AI in fields such as education, finance, and criminal justice.

Dr. Schiff's interdisciplinary research employs both qualitative and quantitative methods to examine how industry, public opinion, and policymakers shape AI ethics and governance frameworks. He is passionate about integrating social responsibility into technology policy, working alongside students, academics, and practitioners.

At GRAIL, Dr. Schiff leads collaborative studies on AI’s ethical and policy implications, with a commitment to engaging public and private stakeholders to advance responsible AI practices. He previously served as Responsible AI Lead at JP Morgan Chase & Co. and Secretary of IEEE 7010-2020, the first industry standard on AI ethics, focused on AI’s impacts on human well-being.

Yang Yen Thaw

To this end, he has studied and been certified as AAE (Associate Adult Educator), ACLP + ACTA certified adult trainer, corporate lawyer, registered management consultant (RMC), and in several technical disciplines. He has held senior management and executive positions in management and law in listed as well as private limited companies with businesses spanning Australia, China, France, India, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, UK, USA, and most Southeast Asian countries. He has also run his own law firm for 12 years adding tohis experience.

Yen Thaw has trained over 3000 adults in the past 3 years and has had much experience in dealing with ground staff all the way to the CEO and board of directors.
