There is no Health without Mental Health
Mental health is an integral and essential component of health. The World Health Organisation (WHO) constitution states: "Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." Good mental health is not just the absence of mental health problems. Being mentally or emotionally healthy is much more than being free of depression, anxiety, or other psychological issues. Rather than the absence of mental illness, mental and emotional health refers to the presence of positive characteristics. Mental health is about how we think, feel and act as we cope with our lives. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others and make choices. Like physical health, mental health is important at every stage of life.
Psychological Well-being Practitioner (PWP)
Psychological Well-being Practitioners (PWPs) are trained to support people with common mental health problems – principally anxiety disorders and depression – in the self-management of their recovery via a range of low-intensity, evidence-based interventions, informed by underlying cognitive/behavioural principles.
