Overview

Murak Rai Timor recently partnered with Aventis Learning Group to deliver a five-day executive development programme titled “Strategic Financial Management: Integrating Analysis, Risk, and Sustainability.” This highly specialised training was designed to enhance the financial leadership capabilities of Murak Rai Timor’s finance management team by integrating advanced financial analysis, enterprise risk management (ERM), and sustainability principles.

As a forward-thinking organisation committed to growth and governance excellence, Murak Rai Timor sought to improve its financial management decision-making, risk oversight, and sustainable business practices. The organisation recognised the need to equip its finance leaders with the analytical and strategic skills required to navigate complex financial environments while aligning with sustainability goals and global best practices.

Financial Management Training Highlights

The five-day executive training was delivered by Mr. Lim Keng Hwee, a finance and risk management expert with over 20 years of leadership experience in commercial and corporate finance. The programme combined technical rigour with real-world applicability, ensuring participants could translate learning into actionable financial management strategies immediately.

The workshop covered three core domains:

  • Financial Analysis and Presentation of Financial Statements (Days 1–2)
Participants explored International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), key financial ratios, and performance metrics. They gained hands-on exposure to Excel-based budgeting, forecasting, and capital investment analysis, strengthening their ability to interpret financial statements and present insights for strategic decision-making.
  • Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) (Days 3–4)
The finance team deepened their understanding of risk frameworks, governance structures, and strategic alignment using the 10-Step ERM Victory Consulting Model. Participants engaged in practical exercises that enhanced their ability to identify, assess, and mitigate organisational risks proactively, building a foundation for stronger risk governance.
  • Sustainability and ESG Integration (Day 5)
The final day focused on sustainability and ESG standards, where participants learned to identify sustainability risks and opportunities, assess GHG emissions (Scope 1–3), and align corporate initiatives with organisational and global sustainability goals. This segment emphasised embedding sustainability into financial management strategies to drive long-term value creation.

Through a combination of case studies, group discussions, and guided reflections, participants developed actionable strategies to enhance financial management resilience, manage risks effectively, and lead sustainable growth.

Key Outcomes

The executive training delivered measurable benefits to Murak Rai Timor’s finance management team:

  • Strengthened Financial Acumen: Participants improved their ability to analyse financial statements, evaluate performance metrics, and communicate insights to support data-driven decisions.
  • Enhanced Risk Management Capability: The team gained a holistic understanding of enterprise risk management, enabling proactive identification, assessment, and mitigation of business risks.
  • Sustainability Integration: Awareness of ESG frameworks and sustainability principles equipped participants to integrate environmental and social considerations into corporate financial planning.

Participants particularly valued the hands-on learning approach and customised case studies, which translated global best practices into the context of Timor-Leste’s business environment.

Impact of Programme

Following the programme, Murak Rai Timor’s finance leadership demonstrated enhanced confidence in strategic financial management planning, governance practices, and risk oversight.
