Business Sustainability Expert: Mr Chan Mun Wai, Founder & Principal Consultant, SustainableSG (Singapore)

Chan Mun Wei started SustainableSG in September 2018 to consult, train and write in the areas of sustainability, strategy, risk, and entrepreneurship. He has worked with corporate, government and non-profit clients on sustainability strategy and implementation, developing carbon management policies and reports, formulating circular economy business models, assessing climate risks, reviewing organizational programmes and targets related to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, promoting inclusive hiring, as well as benchmarking and communicating sustainability programmes and achievements. Mun Wei graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences and Master of Arts in Education, and his MBA at National University of Singapore. He was formerly the Divisional Director of Corporate Planning at Sentosa Development Corporation from April 2009 to August 2018. One of his core responsibilities was developing and implementing the Sentosa Sustainability Plan. Projects he led at Sentosa included driving energy efficiency across all operating entities to improve efficiency and reduce emissions, conducting an island-wide biodiversity study, assessing the feasibility of deploying renewable energy such as tidal turbines and rooftop solar, initiating the annual Sentosa Gives community giving initiative, and ensuring the island remains affordable and accessible to local visitors.
