Special Needs Planning is a complex issue that requires time, financial resources, and trusted advisors.


This 2-day highly interactive and experiential workshop seeks to provide a general over view of children with Special needs as well as the challenges faced by them. Let Senior Counsellor, Ms Karen-Ann provide you with the definitive guide to engaging and raising children with special needs. In this essential 2-day workshop, Karen will lay out a complete, step-by-step approach for parents, educators, and others who work with developmental needs.


In this workshop, you will learn:

  1. An overview of the main types of Special needs and learning disabilities.
  2. What ‘behaviour challenges’ are and in what contexts they occur in;
  3. The struggles and obstacles associated with special educational needs.
  4. The kinds of biases prejudices and assumptions associated with special educational needs in society.
  5. Learn about the rights required by law for children with learning disabilities (IDEA ACT) and Individualized Education Program (IEP)
  6. A better understanding of the emotional, social and learning needs of children with Special Needs.
  7. Shaping” the development of the new desired behavior
  8. The effective use of reinforcements to encourage repetition of new, desired behaviours.
  9. Learn how to prevent some difficult behaviors and respond appropriately when behavioral problems occur.
Who Should Attend?

Professionals working in childcares, kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools and healthcare services who would like to have more information on how to engage children with special needs effectively. Karen has more than 20 years of experience as a counselor, she has worked in the Ministry of Community Development and Sports as a Senior Probations Officer & Aftercare Officer. She also served as a Counselor in many organisations and also in the Ministry of Education. She also worked as a Counselor for the Kobe Kansei Hospital providing talks and seminars for teachers and parents at the international schools

Karen holds a Joint Honors Degree in Social Policy and Sociology from the University of Hull (UK), and a Masters of Social Science Degree in Social Works from the National University of Singapore. She also obtained a Graduate Diploma in Expressive Therapy from Queensland Australia and a Graduate Advanced Diploma in Children with Special Needs from NIE.

Karen has worked in various settings, which include school counseling, medical social work, private counseling, and teaching. Her areas of interest include Youth counseling, Special Needs Education, Marital and Mental health.  She takes a holistic approach to counseling. This multidimensional approach combines the best features of life coaching, psychotherapy, relationship counseling, mind-body healing and spiritual growth. Karen is married with two wonderful kids.
